Your first steps toward confident dancing start here. Beginners Ballroom by Cortez Ballroom introduces you to the basic steps, timing and partner skills used in ballroom and social dancing. Whether you’re completely new or returning to refresh your fundamentals, you’ll learn in a welcoming group setting with clear instruction and time to practice. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN • Basic steps and patterns of the dances introduced in class. • How to recognize the beat and move in time with music. • Posture, balance and smooth weight changes. • An introduction to leading, following and partner connection. • How to connect simple movements into danceable combinations. The goal is to help you understand your movement, feel more comfortable with a partner and build skills you can use on the social dance floor. WHO IT’S FOR Adult beginners, returning dancers and anyone who wants to strengthen their ballroom basics. No previous dance experience is necessary. Come solo or bring a partner. WHAT TO EXPECT Guided instruction, repetition and a friendly atmosphere where questions are welcome. You’ll practice the material with other students, develop coordination and gradually become more comfortable dancing to music. You don’t need to arrive knowing the steps. Bring your curiosity and give yourself permission to learn! WHAT TO BRING Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and shoes that stay securely on your feet. Dance shoes are welcome but aren’t required to begin. Bring water. PAIR IT WITH BALLROOM BOOTCAMP Ballroom Bootcamp at 6:00 PM focuses on cadence and four foundational movement skills: walking, side steps, weight changes and syncopations. Beginners Ballroom follows at 7:00 PM, helping you apply those fundamentals to ballroom steps and partner dancing. DROP-IN OPTION This $20 drop-in plan covers one Beginners Ballroom class for one person. It’s a simple way to try the class or attend when your schedule allows.
